LENTEN PROGRAMS

"COME AS YOU ARE"

Looking for something different this Lent? Our parish is sponsoring six weekly  “Come as You Are” meetings during the season of Lent.   This is a group of 8-12 adults who come together every week for six weeks to share something of their stories with one another and to share God's story (i.e., the Sunday scriptures). Noticing one's story and the story of God, listening appreciatively to the story of another, people help each other to make connections between everyday life and faith. For more information on this Lenten program, please contact rectory @ 860-749-8353 or by e-mail at manager@sbc-enfield.org

Countless people looked forward to the late Andy Rooney’s quip at the end of the “60 Minutes” broadcast.  He would site some observation and give his commentary on the subject.  I thought I might give it a try this week.

We have our fair share of funerals at Saint Bernard.  I am utterly amazed at the lack of respect shown to the funeral procession by traffic as we leave for the cemetery.  In recent times, the lead car (with a flashing purple light!) and the hearse (we all know what is inside!), are literally in the middle of Hazard Avenue with traffic continuing to speed by and give dirty looks and gestures.  One car literally sped along the curb to pass on the right as the procession finally took control of the lane.  Is it not obvious why we are in the middle of the road?  Has society become that indifferent to sacred moments? The irony in the situation is that if the funeral were for their loved one a different viewpoint would be expressed.  So, I urge, you to please respect a funeral procession when you see one.  Please share this with your family and friends.  Yes, in the State of Connecticut the funeral procession has only the courtesy and not the right of way, but I ask…Where is the courtesy?
